Mother’s Day Brunch


Having my mom in town for Mother’s Day weekend was wonderful and included lots of quality time together…especially in the kitchen. For brunch on Sunday, we served my go-to egg casserole (recipe here) a french toast bake (will post that recipe soon) and my fiance made his grandma’s famous waffles – which were just as amazing as he told me they would be.

Freshly squeezed O.J. (made with the Hurom juicer), Diane Von Furstenberg colorful plates, table runner from Bergdorf Goodman and a mix of bright peonies for an easy centerpiece.

An easy appetizer for brunches, luncheons and open houses…or anytime you need to put out a little, delicious nosh – These are Trader Joe’s Raisin Rosemary Crisps and you just add a little cream cheese and top with berries.


1 cup flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4  teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

3 eggs, separated (separate yolks from the whites and keep in two separate bowls)

2 cups sour cream

3 tablespoons melted butter

*And you’ll need a waffle maker


1. Sift 1 cup flour. Add baking powder, salt, sugar and baking soda to your sifted flour. Sift everything (all dry ingredients) together.

2. Beat egg yolks until light, add sour cream and butter.

3. Combine liquid and dry ingredients.

4. Beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry; fold into batter.

5. Use non-stick spray on waffle maker & pour batter. Cook until golden brown. Serve with powdered sugar, butter, syrup, favorite fruit or even whip cream.

*Serves 4-6 (we doubled the recipe for our large group)
